Kevin Oleary Boat Accident: A years-long legal battle stemming from the fatal 2019 boating collision in Ontario’s cottage country involving television personality and investor Kevin O’Leary and his wife Linda O’Leary has officially come to an end after six years of intense litigation and confidential settlement negotiations.
The lawsuits and countersuits arose following the deadly nighttime crash on Lake Joseph in the Muskoka region, where two boats collided while the O’Learys were returning home from a dinner gathering. The tragedy sparked multiple multimillion-dollar claims, third-party lawsuits, and legal disputes involving survivors, family members, and both boat operators.
Rui Fernandes, lead lawyer representing Kevin and Linda O’Leary, confirmed that all matters tied to the case have now been resolved. While settlement terms remain confidential, limited details have emerged through court records and legal filings.
According to available information, the combined payout to all 14 claimants did not exceed $2 million, with neither boat operator contributing more than half of the total amount. Two children who filed claims related to the death of their mother reportedly received settlements of $100,000 each, minus legal fees and associated costs.
The final payouts are significantly lower than the multimillion-dollar damages initially sought when the legal proceedings first began. The resolution brings closure to one of Canada’s most closely watched boating tragedy cases, which unfolded against the backdrop of some of the country’s most exclusive waterfront properties.
With the settlement finalized, all lawsuits, notices of claim, and third-party legal actions connected to the crash have officially been dismissed.
