ON-403 Ontari: Parts of the eastbound lanes of Highway 403 in Mississauga were closed for several hours on Friday following a serious dump truck collision that caused major traffic disruption.
According to police, the incident occurred around 11:20 a.m. when a dump truck struck the Hurontario Street overpass. Dramatic footage from the scene showed the truck bed positioned nearly vertically beneath the structure, prompting an immediate emergency response and full lane closures.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported in the crash. However, the severity of the impact required extensive cleanup and safety inspections before the highway could safely reopen to motorists.
Traffic was heavily affected throughout the afternoon as crews worked to remove the vehicle and assess potential structural concerns at the overpass. Drivers were urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes during the closure.
After several hours of work, the eastbound lanes of Highway 403 were fully reopened shortly before 7:00 p.m., restoring normal traffic flow in the area.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of caution and awareness when traveling near overpasses and construction zones, especially along busy commuter routes like Highway 403.
